A different light in the festive December month

There are a lot of festive events during the December month. I’d love to mention one special event, in memory of children who have gone from this world yet always in our heart. Have you heard of Worldwide Candle Lighting Day?

Every second Sunday of December people around the world light candles for children who have died, to show that they will always be loved and never be forgotten.

This Sunday 13th December at 7 p.m. local time, people will light candles for one hour to remember their loved ones. To pay tribute to a child, grandchild or sibling of any age, no matter how long ago they died. Also babies who died before they were born will be remembered.

As everyone lights their candles at the same time in every time zone, a consistent warm glow passes around the planet for a full 24-hour day.

A special moment of honour

Lighting a candle is a beautiful gesture to show that although someone may be gone from this world, their memory will endure. The light of their flame will continue to inspire and guide us.

History

The Compassionate Friends by the American Association of Orphaned Parents started the candle lighting as a small internet tribute in 1996. It has grown into a tradition of creating a worldwide wave of light. To keep the children alive in our memories and hearts.
